Round-trip: 800 m
Difficulty: Moderate
Location: Tofte, Mn
It only takes about ten minutes to hike up to the top of the steep hill, but it’s well worth the effort. From the top, you’ll enjoy a views of Lake Superior and Carleton Peak, as well as an aerial view of a canopy of treetops.
Britton Peak is easily accessible from County Road 61 in northern Minnesota, and requires less than 20 minutes of moderately strenuous hiking from start to finish. It’s one of the short hikes along the Superior Hiking Trail.
If you’re driving south on highway 61 from Grand Marais, take a right on Sawbill Trail (just before the Bluefin in Tofte) and drive up the hill about 3 km, and then make a right into the clearly-designated parking area. You’ll find ample parking and well-marked trailposts indicating the path to Britton Peak.
