The Thunder Bay Hiking Association has done a lot of hard work clearing this trail over the past year. The Thunder Bay Hiking Association is a great way to get out hiking in the Thunder Bay area. The club is very active and leads hike outings nearly every weekend year round. They also take on projects creating and maintaining several trails in the area such as this one.
The Welsh Mountain trail has a few steep climbs that are rewarded by great views in all directions. At the time of this posting the hiking club said they still had some work they wanted to complete in clearing the trail to some of the lookouts and that there may be some slight changes to the route shown here once the work is all done. The trail is marked with blue blazes and I did have some trouble following the trail in a few spots.
Drive East on Highway 11/17 to Pearl and watch for a small CP rail siding road on the left hand side called Bowker. This road can be pretty muddy in the spring and fall. Park before the busy train tracks. The trail starts across the tracks and through the field angling slightly to the right.
Interesting!
I like the looks of this trail and the name resonates also…
