Castle Danger

Castle Danger to Gooseberry Falls is a section of the Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota.

Difficulty: Moderate
Round-trip: 14.6 km
Location: Two Harbors, MN

Google Map can be found here

This is a linear hike and you will need to arrange transportation back to your car. Highlights of this section of the trail are Wolf Rock, Mike’s Rock, the Gooseberry River, and Gooseberry Falls. There are 5 campsites along this route. The best part for me was walking along the river for the last few kilometers before you get to the falls at the end of the section.

At Hwy. 61 milepost 36.6, turn left on Lake Co. Rd. 106/Silver Creek Township Rd. 617 (West Castle Danger Rd.) and go 4 km to the trailhead parking lot on right. Overnight parking okay.

To my disappointment, there were no castles or danger anywhere along this trail. But there were some beautiful lookouts and waterfalls that sort of made up for it 😉 The trail starts with a short steep climb to Wolf Rock where you get views of the forest and Lake Superior. This is the quickest way on any section of the Superior Hiking Trail to an outstanding view.
