This is a nice hike in itself, despite the fact that it is basically just another access point for the North Country Trail. From here you can get onto the NCT as it heads to the East along Lake Superior. You can also access the Naomikong Point hike as it heads West along the shoreline toward Whitefish Bay.
The wind has the potential to make this hike pretty unpleasant. But so far each time I have been to this area, I have been lucky enough to have experienced calm winds. I do hope that one time I will be able to see what it is like here when the winds are up.
From Bay Mills, Michigan head west on Lake Superior Shoreline Road for 35km and park at the Naomikong Overlook Day Use Area on the north side of the highway.
From the parking area follow the trail located at the north-west end of the lot. The trail leads down several steps into a marsh area with several boardwalks providing access to the wet spots. In the spring there were lots of wildflowers here!
At 750m from the start, there is a Y junction. If you go to the right you will quickly come out on the shore of Lake Superior after 70m. If you take the left path you will continue along the NCT and eventually come to the bridge over Naomikong Creek, which was the turn-around point for this day.
Thank you Mike!
Just started using your website after subscribing. I have used many sites both here in Michigan and Alaska and this puts everything in one place. Very nice and thanks.
