Grindstone Falls

This 20-minute trail will take you to Grindstone Falls, a cascading waterfall with a total drop of about 30 metres. There was very little water coming over the falls when we visited. I hope to go back and see these falls in the spring when they will look much better with more water flowing over them.

Directions to the Trailhead

From Thessalon drive north on Highway 129 for 70 km. When you pass the sign for Lafoe Creek, you have about 3 km to go. Watch for the Grindstone Falls trailhead sign, it is hard to see, it is on the right and tucked into the woods. There is a place for one vehicle to park at the side of the road opposite the trail sign.

Grindstone Falls Hike Details

The trail is less than one kilometer and takes you to the bottom of the falls. You can’t see the whole falls from the bottom. There are about three cascading sections that form the falls. There is a trail that takes you to the top of the falls, but it does not seem to be that well used and can be hard to find in places.  I suspect the water has been low for some time and most people are climbing up the rocks to the top of the falls the way we did.

This trail is quick but worth the hike, and you can easily hike it the same day you visit Pig Pen Chutes and/or Aubrey Falls.
